Amarillo

For our Anniversary we drove the 2 hours north to Amarillo. We should have moved to Amarillo! I loved it there! No offense to Lubbock, I like Lubbock. I just really liked Amarillo. :)
We decided to go there to try to restaurants we saw on Man Vs. Food, and some other attractions we wanted to see.

First we went to the Amarillo Livestock Auction so we could eat here:

Stockyards Cafe!
I would have taken a picture of the best chicken fried steak I have ever had, but I didn't want to seem like a tourist. I tried to act cool like the locals. :)
This place is a must try! Not only for the food but the atmosphere, the owner came and asked how we were, got my drink order and a menu since the place was pack and our waitress was busy. The staff knew the regulars, everyone was extremely friendly. It was just great!
After lunch we went and watched some of the auction that is held every Tuesday at 10. I didn't understand the bidding, like how much they were bidding for the cows and such. And that auctioneer! Wow! He was quick!

After lunch we headed to go see the Palo Duro Canyon. The Canyon is 120 miles long, as much as 20 miles wide, and has a maximum depth of more than 800 feet. Its elevation at the rim is 3,500 feet above sea level. It is often claimed that Palo Duro Canyon is the second largest canyon in the United States. The largest, the Grand Canyon, is 277 miles long, 18 miles wide, and 6,000 ft. deep.

It was so nice to see some sort of hill/mountain! And the red dirt reminded Dave of Moab, I have never been there but it reminded me of St. George.

I was trying to get my hair to cooperate since the wind was blowing bad, Dave caught me right as I was moving my arm to move my hair. :)

That's better!

Crazy wind!

A mountain! We got to drive down through the canyon. Next time we go we are definitely going to have to hike around.

Cosmo enjoying the warm weather and scenery

You drive through streams as you loop through the canyon

Dave enjoyed this stream where the water was rising above the crossing.

Some very big Texas Longhorns!
For those of you who know who Charlie Goodnight is (Dad, you should know), he started a ranch in the Palo Duro Canyon section with John Adair and started the JA Ranch. I believe the longhorn are the cattle they used to start up. They can live on this type of hard terrain and can go a longer time without water.

I would love to own some someday!

After the canyon we headed to the American Quarter Horse Museum. I have been wanting to go here since I found out it was Amarillo.

I didn't get any pictures of the inside, but I loved it! I need to go back, we got there an hour before it closed and that wasn't enough time, at least for me it wasn't. :)

We ended our day in Amarillo eating at the Coyote Bluff Cafe.

Probably the best plate of cheese fries I have ever eaten!

Dave and his "Burger From Hell" it had fresh sauteed jalapeƱos, Coyote Hell sauce, Tabasco sauce, cheese, lettuce, tomato and grilled onions. He enjoyed it! He said it was just a little tingly, yeah right, my mouth would have been on fire!

So I got the California burger, instead of peppers it had sour cream, guacamole and green chilies.
Delicious!!! The burger was perfect, and the bun was toasted. It was by far the best burger I have ever had.

We had a great trip and I can't wait to go back!
